Volunteering
Thank You to Our Volunteers
Our school is deeply grateful for the incredible support of our volunteers. Your time, energy, and commitment make a meaningful difference in the daily experiences of our students and staff. Whether supporting classroom learning, helping at school events, or contributing behind the scenes, your involvement strengthens our school community and helps create a welcoming, caring, and connected environment for all. We truly could not do this important work without you—thank you for all that you do to support our students and our school.
Interested in Volunteering? Here’s what you need to know:
In the fall of 2025, the Ministry of Education approved Bill 33, Supporting Children and Students Act, 2025. The Act will strengthen government oversight and accountability in publicly funded school boards. It will also increase the safety, well-being, academic, and personal achievement of students, children, and youth in care.
Additionally, amendments have been made to the Ontario Regulation 521/01: Collection of Personal Information to strengthen police record check requirements.
A Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) will be required for all volunteers.
New Volunteers
Starting immediately, all volunteers will be required to provide an original current Police Records Check – Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). A current Vulnerable Sector Check is considered to be issued within the last six months.
The original copy of the Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) must be kept on file in a secure location in the school office. Access to the original records should be limited to Principal, Vice-Principal, and main office staff.
Schools will provide all volunteers with a letter stating responsibilities within the school. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to our office in order for us to provide you with a letter.
Existing Volunteers
If a volunteer has submitted a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) within the past three (3) years and a hard copy is on file at the school, the VSC may be extended for a total validity period of five (5) years.
If the VSC was previously reviewed but no hard copy is on file, the volunteer must provide a hard copy of that VSC for school records.
If a hard copy of the current VSC cannot be obtained, the volunteer will be required to submit a new VSC. A newly issued VSC will be valid for five (5) years, provided that an Offence Declaration is completed and signed annually.
| The chart below assists when a new VSC is required as the five-year expiry is determined by volunteer birth date: Birth month | Date by which a new police record check must be collected |
| January to June | Last day of birth month in the year that is five years after the year in which the most recent police check was collected |
| July and August | June 30 in the year that is five years after the year in which the most recent police check was collected |
| September to December | Last day of birth month in the year that is five years after the year in which the most recent police check was collected |
